Come along with me and explore the beauty & general awesomeness of Detroit, A to Z !
The most distinctive part of the Detroit skyline is the Renaissance Center aka "The RenCen" was built in 1977 is General Motors' World Headquarters. It's located right along the Detroit Riverfront.
As seen from Windsor.
Fun Fact - it is a common thing for kids to go to Canada for their 19th birthday, since that is the drinking age there. Customs & border officials don't even blink an eye at this. I posted about taking my daughter over HERE.
The 73 story center tower is the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. Four 39-story office towers surround the hotel rising from a square-shaped podium which includes a shopping center, restaurants, brokerage firms, and banks. The two-21 story towers house Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Michigan.
Seen from upriver.
There is a map of the world on the Gm Plaza Promenade that you can see on Google Earth. I bet it's really cool to see at night, since there are lights on the major cities.
Riverwalk is a beautiful paved walkway right along the Detroit River from the RenCen all the way to Belle Isle - about 5 1/2 miles. There are lots of benches along the way, so you can sit and watch boat & freighter traffic.
Rivard Plaza - is just upriver a bit from the RenCen and has an awesome carousel, parks & playgrounds and lovely sculptures.
Sights that I recognise from our walks along the Riverfront walk.
ReplyDeleteThe Riverwalk sounds like a fun way to spend a day!
