Anna Atkins
(1799 - 1871)
Ms, Atkins was a botanist and is considered the first female photographer. She is thought to be the first to publish a book using photograms as illustrations, a type of image created using light and special paper.
The images are also quite beautiful.

Very interesting! I'd never heard of her either but the image you posted is cool.
ReplyDeleteThe image is beautiful! I love your theme for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great theme for the A-to-Z Challenge! As a female biologist myself, Anna Atkins is certainly inspirational. Nice post :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the effort at cataloguing the incredible contributions women have made to science (among other things, of course!) over the years. Great post!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see ladies making such contributions back in a time when women didn't usually get the educational opportunities that men did.
DeleteI've never heard of a photogram before. It truly is lovely. Interesting choice for A! Happy a-zing...
