Tonight is the first night in a while that I've been able to sit down & get on the computer. I was trying to catch up on reading some blogs (that I'm 3 weeks behind on) but then decided to actually write a post real quick.
First of all, let's take a moment and admire this!
I now know what it means to be so proud that you 'burst your buttons'!
Girl Power was up against some really awesome routines, so when they started naming off the top 5 during the Showdown (the top scoring routines of the previous 3 days) we were really nervous. First of all, they'd announce the placement, then start showing a video of the dance on the big screens on each side of the stage - which the kids on stage couldn't see, but could hear.
#5 was named. OK. We kind of nodded. #4 was named. OK. More nodding. #3 was named, we started looking at each other. And wondering just how many routines were in the category. We thought 5, but someone said 6. #2 was named and Miss Gabby, the choreographer, dropped to the floor crying! Hands started to shake. Then they announced #1 and all I saw on that big screen was camouflage before leaping to my feet and jumping around, screaming like a mad woman - just like everyone else was!
Technically, there were 4 National Champions awarded - in each of the 2 age groups under each of the 2 performance levels. We also have to appreciate that there were 18 studios there from Texas to Virginia, Florida to Minnesota. From a total of 10 hiphop routines the entire competition - 3 were ours. And out of 16 tap routines, 7 were ours. So there was a LOT of jazz & lyrical & contemporary & musical theater, etc.
It was a very bittersweet moment, too. Knowing that it was Miss Angela’s last competition as a studio dancer. But at least she’s going out with a bang!!
So now that I've covered the big news, my next posts will be about the touristy adventures we had in the 9 days we were "down South".
