SkyWatch Friday 7/18/25

Yesterday was yet another day of off & on storms - we got over 2 inches of rain within 12 hours.

I share an office with 2 other people and luckily, we all agree that the overhead lights are annoying and most of the time, keep them off.   We're in the Southeast corner of the building so we have 2 walls that are all windows, therefore get lots of natural light.   However, with those storms coming in - it kept getting dark, which reminded me of this video....

When the Spawn (I mean my daughter) got home from picking the grandson up from summer camp, they wanted to go for a walk.  I took this from the end of my driveway.

Fun fact - I live / work in that little part of Michigan that's north of Canada, so that storm was likely over Windsor, Ontario.

Coming back from our walk - the grandkids found this giant caterpillar crossing the road.  I picked it up and moved it onto a milkweed plant that's growing wild in my yard (thinking it was a monarch caterpillar).
It's not.
(ew my hand looks funky!)

This is still a really cool caterpillar and I swear I've never seen one of these moths before!
I hope we do get to see it!

  1. That's a fierce looking cloud. I'm all about turning out the overhead lights and relying on the windows and then maybe desk lamps.
    Fierce looking caterpillar as well.

  3. Some areas of our country have had too much rain, while out west where I live we have not had enough! I've never seen a catapillar like that --I wonder what is will metamorph into?

  5. I love the caterpillar and the clouds. I'm going to go look up the part of Michigan that's north of Canada. I've seen several photos of people on vacation around Lk Michigan and it's so very pretty. One day I'd love to visit there if things ever calm down. I remember staying in Kingston years ago and walking along Lk. Superior. I loved the strong waves and the vast expanse of water. It's very much like being on the ocean.
